Kylie Jenner, the reality TV star and model, has partnered with Bratz for a limited edition doll collection. This collaboration marks the first time that a celebrity has been transformed into one of the iconic Bratz dolls. The Mini Bratz x Kylie Jenner collection, featuring six different dolls, was released on Tuesday.
While Barbie has long been synonymous with playtime for kids, Bratz dolls gained immense popularity in the 2000s and reportedly generated $2 billion in sales from 2001 to 2006. The new capsule collection showcases Jenner in six of her famous looks, including the lavender feathered Versace mermaid gown she wore to the 2019 Met Gala and the veiled all-white Off-White ensemble she debuted at the same event three years later.
In a statement, MGA Entertainment, the manufacturer of Bratz, promised the release of a full line of Kylie dolls in the coming weeks. Jenner expressed her excitement about the collaboration, stating that she has been a fan of Bratz since childhood and has always wanted her own Bratz doll. She also mentioned that she has loved every step of the process in creating these dolls alongside the Bratz team.
The launch of the Bratz x Kylie collection has received mixed reactions from fans. Some have criticized the choice of collaborating with Jenner, a white woman, instead of a Black woman or woman of color. Bratz dolls have been celebrated for their representation of Black and Brown women. However, others have expressed their support for the collaboration and the dolls’ design.
The limited edition dolls, priced at $9.99 each, are accompanied by mini accessories such as Kylie’s convertible cruiser, her Italian greyhound Norman, and an oversized lip-shaped phone. The collection is available online and in select stores.
