Yesterday, I broke down the ‘winning’ strategy’ being employed to navigate the Russian scandal. Of the three key elements I laid out, the most important, I believe, is his war on the mainstream media. It is a fascistic tactic, time-worn and effective. Tuesday, the heat got turned up when White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders let loose with a 17 minute diatribe against the ‘Fake News’ media.

“I think that we have gone to a place where, if the media can’t be trusted to report the news, then that’s a dangerous place for America,” she said. “And I think if that is the place certain outlets are going — particularly for the purpose of spiking ratings — and if that’s coming directly from the top, I think that’s even more scary.”

The only pushback she received was from reporter Brian Karem, who told her, “We’re here to ask you questions. You’re here to provide the answers. And what you just did is inflammatory to people all over the country who look at it and say, “See, once again, the president is right, and everybody else out here is fake media.” And everybody in this room is only trying to do their job”

It’s a full on knife fight.

Wednesday, Donald J. Trump continued his assault via Twitter.

An irate Karem blasted the President on Wednesday for what he believes is a blatant attempt to discredit the 4th estate.

“We’ve been called the ‘enemy of the people’ from that White House,” Karem said. “We’ve been told that we’re fake media. We are bullied and browbeaten every day ― and I’ve pretty much had enough of it. It’s not good for this country. It’s got to be stopped and … more of us have to stand up to it every day.”

More people in the press to speak out as adamantly as Karem. Time is running out. If Trump is allowed to carry out his plan, consequences might be irreversible, to both the credibility of the press and our nation’s standing in the world.
