After weeks of secrecy and backroom dealing, the Senate Republicans have finally unveiled a draft of their new health care plan for all to see. Big shock – it’s a plan that benefits the wealthy and screws the poor. The bill, released Thursday, rolls back health care access for millions and doles out hundreds of billions of dollars in tax cuts for corporations and the rich. In short, it’s basically the same as the House bill which the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has already weighed in on as a plan that would strip 23 million people of their health care, defund Planned Parenthood, massively overhaul Medicaid and gut safety net programs that provide vital support to the most vulnerable Americans. So, yeah, essentially all programs meant to help the poor survive are on the chopping block.
The CBO will weigh in on the new Senate bill next week, until then we will not know the full effect of what this plan will do to the health care system.
Whether Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is able to nail down the 50 votes necessary to pass the bill is still uncertain, but the President is in desperate need of an ‘accomplishment’ to distract the public from the escalating Russian investigation and his myriad bobbles, cock-ups, and blunders. So, chances are high something will pass – and fast. McConnell wants the Senate to vote on this bill next week.
Well, what can you say? The people that voted in these lawmakers are by and large not rich. They will be the ones suffering if this thing passes. And I say… good. Maybe the only thing that will get through to static is losing their health care, their security…receiving a colossal kick in the scrotum from their beloved Trump. Our dear leader has been babbling of late about the bill being too ‘mean’. We’ll see if that has any effect on the final iteration…somehow I doubt it.
