According to Donald’s pal and Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy, the President is seriously considering firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is currently leading the investigating into Team Trump’s ties with Russia.

“I think he’s considering perhaps terminating the special counsel. I think he’s weighing that option,” Ruddy told PBS NewsHour’s Judy Woodruff on Monday.

The Newsmax CEO was at inside the White House earlier in the day, though it’s not clear whether he had an audience with the talking yam.

One of Trump’s lawyers, Jay Sekulow weighed in on the subject on Sunday on ABC’s “This Week”, saying, “Look, the president of the United States, as we all know, is a unitary executive. But the president is going to seek the advice of his counsel and inside the government as well as outside. And I’m not going to speculate on what he will, or will not, do.”

Of course, it’s less about what the President has the authority to do and more about how it would look if he pulled the plug on the investigation. It would be Nixon’s Sunday Massacre part deux, and we all know what happened within weeks of that blood bath. It would look bad…very bad. He’d likely lose GOP support and the calls for impeachment would grow exponentially stronger. The word on the street is that tour dear leader is being counseled against axing Mueller, but if there’s one thing we’ve learned these past few months…the Donald does not like to take advice.

The question is, if tDonald were to fire Mueller, would there be any way to stop him?

Well, first off, Trump can’t fire the guy himself, he would have to direct the Attorney General or the Deputy General to do it and one would hope they’d resign rather than do the deed. But let’s say they’re a couple of spineless jellyfish…then what? According to Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, congress would merely reestablish independent congress and appoint Mueller.

That, however, is far from a given as it would require support from Republican lawmakers.

All we can do is wait and see…and hope Mueller is working at an expedient pace.
